Sei (Awakening) II

The Romance of Gepetto

A sort of tension, brought about by the postponement of various international exhibitions during the pandemic, was eased.

I was reminded of myself 20 years ago, when I took a break from exhibiting for a year.  Although the circumstances differ from back then, I was able to find the time to contemplate my future. And as I cannot change the past, it is only natural that my thoughts will point ahead.

At my age, one can see the amount of time that is left in life. Such is why I wish to give everything that I have left within me. But when thinking more and more about this, a single thought crosses my mind.

What is it that drives you now?

From a single log of wood, a Buddhist sculptor would find Buddha. How can their unrequited devotion not blind them from finding the inner soul?

I also believe that my heart will continue to flutter, to never lose sight of the joy that arises from coming face to face with clay.

And I hope that my works, instilled with life, will begin to walk alone. I wish them a long and pleasant journey ahead.

Perhaps the tale of Pinocchio was also born from reaching the end of such unrequited ardor.
