About
the Artist

Textile artists add color to fabrics to create dazzling displays of ancient techniques. Ruri Mitsuo (b. 1992 –), in a similar fashion, utilizes dyeing techniques to breathe new life into old kimono fabrics. In recent years, she has found new horizons by combining fabric with multimedia to create objects that stand alone as sculptures.
The colors of fabric oft become more vibrant when flowing in water. However, such moments are usually unseen. Transforming the fleeting beauty of that moment into something eternal, as if capturing the flow of fabric in water in amber, stopping time and space itself — these elements are a part of Mitsuo’s aesthetic.
Currently based in Fukuoka, Mitsuo focuses on the most beautiful aspects of fabric, elevating the two-dimensional textile into something that stands alone as object. With a progressive mindset, her spirited pursuit to shape new ideas captivates, drawing admiration for Mitsuo’s aesthetic consciousness and the boundless potential of a young artist.
